Flying with Starlux

As air travel is unfortunately making the front page again, in this end of 2024, I thought it was a good idea to review Starlux, a pretty new airline out of Taiwan, which Daiki and I used to travel to Japan last month. Here is my honest review:

The news

We are December 31 st 2024, 6 pm, and here I am writing my blog. Why am I not out there celebrating and partying like everyone? Because I hate that. My goal is to wake up early tomorrow, and go surf. But I digress… Here I am reading the terrible news from South Korea’s Jeju airline, and the strange landing crash of their 737. This of course closely following, another strange accident of the Azerbaijan Airlines plane crashing in Kazakhstan, at landing as well.

Fear of Flying

It is important to know that I always had fear of flying, even though I flew more times that I can count, the fear never truly leaves. I know the stats of course. And because I am afraid, I actually developed a true obsession for airplanes, and aviation. I watched every single investigation documentaries there are and follow numerous pilots and flight attendants online. So when we considered Starlux, I directly went to their Wikipedia, and FlightAware to learn more about them.

New and from Taiwan

Starlux launched in 2018, so when I say new, it’s a literal toddler. Their fleet is of medium size but only counting the newest jewels by Airbus. (I am not hating Boeing fyi, the 777 and 747 will always be amazing planes that I am happy to fly today still). They had no accidents or incidents listed, a very good record of schedule and flight timeline, so I directly felt good about it. Plus I love to see emerging economies like Taiwan making a bang with a cool and “luxe” airline.

We booked our tickets!

We flew was a A350-900 from LAX to Taipei. The plane was amazing as usual, quiet, and spacious. The design was minimal but tasteful, which I like, with small details like these succulent planters in the bathroom.
The color palette of the interior was very much my taste with a few earth tones going on. I kept, the little pouch.

In conclusion, I would recommend Starlux. I was definetely a “luxurious” experience for an economic passenger, and besides from turbulences on our first flight toward Asia, (which made us leave course a little bit too close to Russia to my liking) all flights were very smooth, on time and with great service.

Thank you
