In 2020, I purchased a mid-century house on the outskirts of Los Angeles. Like everyone living in LA, I was dreaming of the classic mid-century modern house, like you see in movies and ads, but these houses, rarer and rarer on the market, were way out of my budget, as I am not a millionaire or the daughter of one.

So I purchased the classic L-shaped mid-century suburban, and upgraded it to the level of the houses I was dreaming about. And the key asset was the floor. I made a classic Black Slate Floor by hand!
